Throwback Thurday: Who Sampled The Isley Brothers, "Between theSheets"the best?

Well here at The Lab3L we love to search for samples in some of our favorite songs. So this week we took on the challenge of finding our favorite covers of a good oldie. I mean who can ignore the erotic and familiar sound from The Isley Brothers? To prove you can't we constructed a list of our top 10 covers of their famous jam, "Between The Sheets". Check it out to see if you can hear the sample. Some are easy, others a little harder, you be the judge.

10."Hotline"/Pretty Ricky

Starting it off with Pretty Ricky, who took us by storm (like a Miami Hurricane lol) when they first appeared on Access granted with their sensual dance moves and straight forward approach to R&B. If the video wasn't enough, their 106 appearance in bath robs got your attention. This was a hot summer joint that Static Major surely had his fingers in. It also samples Rick Janes "Mary Jane" if you didn't know.

9."Cali Niggaz"/The Game ft. Dubb, Eastwood, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Topic & Ya Boy

Moving on, this '07 track was full of Cali rappers spitting verse for verse. Plus, it features a rare verse from Kendrick (as K. Dot) and of course he didn't disappoint.

8."Good Evening"/Mac Miller

"K.I.D.S" introduced us to this chilled Guy by the name of Mac Miller. It's because of this mixtape, Mac is on Forbes 30 under 30 list. Good Evening sampled Drake's "A Night Off," which sampled "Between the Sheets." Mac let us all know in this song why he was here to stay. You deserve it Mac.

7."Juke Juke"/Chance the Rapper

Making an appearance at Lucky number 7, Chance made the city very proud with this one. He was oh so Chicago with this one and Caleb killed the beat making you want to bob and footwork instantly. This was definitely a standout on his debut mixtape, 10 Day. He surely made this classic melody his own.

6."Luxurious"/Gwen Stefani ft. Slim Thug

Even though Luxurious was the least favorite of Gwen's 2005 hits, we felt this slowed down version of "Between the Sheets"  deserved some attention. Plus, the hook was a great contrast to the beat & it's no doubting how much we love Gwen's unique approach to hooks. Let's not forget her husband speaking French in the beginning & end. Nicely done guys.

5."Summer Wit Miami"/Jim Jones Ft. Trey Songz

This #5  was definitely another no brainer. Jim told us a story while Trey killed the background vocals and gave us a perfect chorus to top it off. This definitely reminds you of those summer flings and crazy summer nights we all live for. Summer come back to us! =(

4."Funkdafied"/Da Brat

Open up, open up and the the funk flow in, as JD and Da Brat take a classic & make it a hit again. At number 4, We love this song in so many ways. One, putting ATL and the Chi together always produces something dope. Two, Da Brat one of the best Emcees to ever hit Hip Hop. Brat is the the funk bandit and they can't handle it.

3."Ignant Shit"/Drake Ft. Lil Wayne

"So Far Gone" was a classic and basicially could've been an album. Channeling Jay and Beans, the Young Money duo let it be known that they were coming to take over (not that Wayne hadn't proved this already). Drake and Wayne really did make magic with this track and "A Night Off" came in so smooth right after it.

2."Ignant Shit"/Jay Z ft Beanie Seigel

Coming in at #2, "Ignorant Shit." We already know Hip hop haters love to criticize Jay Z, so he made this joint as a perfect response to many critics who think Hip Hop is only about drugs, cursing and violence. Sean skillfully attacked critics in Spanish and English over this hypnotic Just Blaze beat. So, "Til we all without sin, let's quit the pulpittin" we love it Hov.

1. "Big Poppa"/Notorious B.I.G

We had to put Biggie at the number spot for obvious reasons. He paved the way for most of the names on this list and almost any and everyone knows the words to this classic. You turn this on at any party and people will respect your decision. It's one of hip-hops anthems! #RIPBIG
